AI Games

Fantasy Gems rely on the use of artificial intelligence algorithms to create intelligent game characters, generate worlds, or perform other tasks that augment gameplay. These technologies are being used in games of all genres, including first-person shooters, role playing games, strategy games, combat games, and others.

The most common use of AI in gaming is the creation of NPCs (non-player characters) that behave smartly and add depth & complexity to games. This includes AI that enables NPCs to respond to the player in real time with non-scripted dialogue. Jitao Zhou, a student at Rikkyo University in Tokyo, has developed an AI system that uses speech as input to generate body gestures for NPCs, creating more realistic movement.

Creating Narratives Around Player-Defined Values with AI

Another key application of AI in games is generating enemies and environments using procedural generation. This approach reduces the amount of manual labor needed for game content creation. AI can also help game developers improve game balancing by monitoring the player’s performance in real-time, adjusting difficult levels, pacing, and other game mechanics accordingly to keep players engaged.

Game developers are increasingly looking at the use of AI to create high-concept, compelling story lines and worlds that make their titles stand out from the crowd. However, many developers remain wary of AI that is non-deterministic or unpredictable. This type of AI can be hard to test and debug, and is challenging to integrate into a game with the short development cycles they often have to work with.
