The first thing you need to do is find out what your specific city’s rules are. Each municipality has its own guidelines and some even have their own waste management calendars that tell you which bins you should fill up when. Some cities also offer a service where you can buy a special trash bag and place it next to your trash container for extra charges.

Generally, most waste can go in the gray/black bin. However, there are exceptions. For example, some buildings have a designated organic waste bin and you can throw all fruit, vegetables, coffee grounds, tea bags, and meat into it. There is also a separate bin for glass, batteries and electronics, which you can take to specific drop-off stations (Restmull).
If you have a lot of bulky waste like carpets, doors or floor coverings that cannot be rolled up or cut down, you may have to take it to a so-called “bulky waste” center. Look for a garbage disposal company that specialises in this and check with them to see what the specific rules are.
