The 2024 rivian r1s adventure dual motor large pack is a battery-powered SUV that packs plenty of range, brisk acceleration and off-road prowess. It competes with gas-powered SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Range Rover, and electric utes from Tesla to the Audi Q8 E-Tron.
Rivian is a newcomer to the automotive world, but the 2024 R1S is well ahead of the curve. Its design is futuristic but minimalist, with a gorgeous cabin that blends technology, quality and comfort. The SUV can seat up to seven, and the rear seats slide forward for easy access to the third row.
2024 Rivian R1S Adventure Dual Motor Large Pack: An Overview
This year Rivian expanded its lineup to include a trio of models with either single or dual motors and a choice of battery packs. A new Dual-Motor R1S starts at $79,800 and includes three-row seating, a power tailgate and synthetic leather upholstery. You can add a panoramic sunroof and 21-inch wheels for an additional cost.
In our 75-mph highway test, the Dual-Motor model achieved a 280-mile driving range. This is close to the EPA’s estimate and significantly better than our previous Quad-Motor R1T test, which only managed 220 miles on a charge. Our 75-mph highway figure was aided by the relatively light weight of the R1S and the use of standard tires.
The Dual-Motor R1S gets the same front and rear motors as last year’s model, but the company says it has improved the powertrain and made it more reliable. An upgrade to the Performance Dual-Motor option boosts power to 665 hp and a head-spinning 700 lb-ft, and it can reach 60 mph in 3.4 seconds.
